High School Field Trip to Washington DC
We had our yearly high school field trip last Friday. We left school close to 5 and ate breakfast in Haymarket around 7. I had breakfast at Chick-Fil-A. I didn’t remember they had breakfast. It was really good. We got to DC at about 8:30.
First, we visited the White House visitor center and the White House. If you download the app at this website you can take a tour virtually.

After visiting the White House we went to Arlington National Cemetery. We saw the changing of the guards, two wreath laying ceremonies, and JFK’s grave.

When we finished at Arlington, we ate lunch at Gravelly Point which is a park basically at the end of the runway of Reagan Airport. We watched a bunch of planes fly overhead. It was really cool!

After Gravelly Point, we went to our final destination which was the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The tour guide had lots of personality which kept the tour interesting. It was a really enjoyable tour with lots of beautiful mosaics and art of all kinds sprinkled in. The tour guide said organ practice was going to start soon so at the end of the tour we waited to hear that. However, it never happened. We sang a little and it sounded amazing! I took way too many pictures.

On the way home we ate supper at Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax. I had Popeye’s and somehow, I managed to get some friends to go with me to the Apple store in the mall.
Overall, it was a really enjoyable trip. It was a lot of walking, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Some people don’t enjoy cities but I think it’s really fun to walk around and do things in cities.
