Maple Syrup Festival
Over the weekend we went to the Maple Syrup Festival back in Highland County. In case you’ve never gone, it’s basically a bunch of different sugar camps that give tours and sell things and a bunch of vendors.
First of all, we stopped at Puffenbarger’s Sugar Camp. After that we went to Rexrode’s where there is a tree Mom loves. We stopped there, took a picture, and got some food. They have maple cotton candy that is absolutely delicious! Most of the camps were boiling water because it’s too late in the season for sap. We stopped at an Amish farm that had buggy rides, maple ice cream, and had a blacksmith shop. They weren’t running the forge unfortunately but they did have a hit-and-miss engine that was making the ice cream. After that we headed to a fish farm to get fish sandwiches for lunch. Then we headed to some land my uncle owns back in Monterey. It’s a short grass airstrip with a cabin on it.
While we were there Dad and some others went to another sugar camp and on the way back they stopped at a place where they were shooting off model rockets. When he got back he asked if we wanted to go watch and we said yeah. My sister got to make a rocket and shoot it off a few times. It was really cool. They were really serious about it and had some huge rockets. Apparently they have shot off a 24 feet tall rocket before. When we left we stopped in McDowell and then came home. It was a full day but it was really fun.
