Outer Banks 2024
We usually go to the beach earlier in the year but this year we didn’t make it until now. Before we left home it looked like the weather was going to be rainy, My motto is “A rainy day at the beach is better than a rainy day at home.” With the weather threatening to keep us inside the whole time, we left Friday afternoon. We got there around 8. We needed supper so we ate at Barefoot Bernie’s. I got a steak and cheese. I know that’s weird but it’s what I got. We stayed at the Holiday Inn and Suites in Nags Head and really enjoyed it.
It didn’t rain on Saturday. However, it was windy which meant they put up the No Swimming signs. Aside from the wind, it was a really good beach day. We had supper at the Black Pelican. Interesting fact, the telegraph the Wright brothers send after their first flight was sent from there. It was originally a lifesaving station. I got shrimp on the barbie that time so it was seafood. They have delicious Reese’s cheesecake so we got some. After we ate we went to Jockey’s Ridge State Park and Kitty Hawk Kites.

It didn’t rain on Sunday but the flags were still up. Our friends who we were planning to meet got there around 3. After finishing out the day we ate at Mulligans. I got Mulligans Burger.
Finally, on Monday it rained, kind of. We went to the friend’s beach house and got ready to go out on the beach. We got there and had hardly got set up and it started to rain. We went inside and waited till it quit raining. Finally, it quit raining so we went back out and had hardly got set up again when the same thing happened. So we repeated the process. We waited a long time that time and when we went back out it stayed nice. The No Swimming flags were still up though. We ate at Sugar Creek and I got the shrimp quesadilla. iOS 18 was released on Monday so I promptly downloaded it and started testing it out.
On Tuesday it rained solidly. However, since we were leaving then it didn’t matter. In the morning we went to Duck Donuts and then to the beach house to hang out before we left. When we left there were inches of rain at the end of the driveway. Thankfully we were in the van which is practically a boat so we were okay. On the way home we stopped at Read’em and Weep bookstore.
Sadly we had to come home but it was most definitely a welcome break from the normal humdrum of daily life.
A smattering of random pictures. If that car got any lower it would scrape pavement off.
