Vision Pro and Cybertruck

We had an exciting day last Saturday. I recently bought a new phone so I wanted to trade in the old one. The nearest Apple Store is in Richmond so that is where we went. We left around 8 and got there around 10:30. Since we were at an Apple Store anyway I scheduled a Vision Pro demo for me and my sister. Since we got there slightly early I started trading in my phone. In the middle of that they said they were ready for me. We went back to a table and he introduced himself and handed me an iPhone. You follow instructions on the phone to scan your face and head size so they know what size to make the straps and which cushion to use. After a little bit they bring it out on a wooden tray and set it on the table beside you. The employee gives a short monologue about it and then asks if you want to see a specific use case during the demo. I had watched a bunch of videos about the Vision Pro, so I just wanted the whole experience. Then the employee tells you how to hold the headset and tells you to put it on. After you pick it up and put it on it guides you through a set up process to calibrate your hands and eyes since that is how they are controlled. The employee has an iPad with them so they can see where and what you are doing in the demo and give you instructions. They do have some controls like volumes and the spatial environment as some of that isn’t a control that you need to learn during a demo. In my demo they took me through set up. We then looked at spatial photos and videos which are incredible! They can be taken on Vision Pro or the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. They give a 3D effect to any photo or video taken in their respective mode. Panoramas are also impressive since you can put them into an immersive mode, and they wrap around as if you are standing in the middle of the photo. We then looked at immersive environments which are impressive. The Vision Pro is usually an AR headset, but immersive environments make it more like VR. You can choose from 8 different environments and adjust how immersed you are in each environment by adjusting the digital crown. One thing that was incredible is when you are fully immersed it doesn’t show anything from the real world other than your hands. There is a slight halo around your hands but the masking abilities are amazing. I could grab my pants and it would show my hands curled around something but the pants wouldn’t flicker in and out or anything. After that we messed around in Safari and the Sky Guide app. I looked up my website which was really cool! I think the app was Sky Guide but it is an excellent example of what the Vision Pro can do. It can go VR and shows all the stars. You can look around which makes constellations appear where you look. When they appear you can pull them towards you and as you move your hand it moves the constellation appropriately. Whenever you let go of the constellation it show info about the constellation. After that I watched a video showing the Vision Pro’s amazing viewing experience. Apple specifically made the video for Vision Pro so it really shows off the quality of the device. One of the employees said if you actually buy the headset and watch the video you can stand up and move around in the scene. After that we had a few minutes left and I went into Freeform to see how the drawing experience was. It was amazing considering my hands were just floating around in mid-air. It worked really well. My sister had already booked an appointment but during mine Dad decided to book an appointment. It was really fun to watch because he was skeptical about how amazing it is. He smiled most of the time. He still thinks it’s kind of a one-trick-pony and expensive but he does think it is really cool.

After we left the mall we ate lunch at Buzz and Ned’s which was delicious. Then, since the Tesla dealership was nearby, we decided to go there. We pulled in and there was a Cybertruck sitting in the parking lot. We got out and went over and looked at it and took some pictures of it. One of the employees came over so we asked if we could look inside one. She said the one we were looking at was already sold and they didn’t have one on display but there was a guy that had his delivered that morning. We went up to look at it and talk to him. After talking to him for a little he asked if we would like to sit inside. Of course we wanted to so we did. The Cybertruck is really cool and futuristic. It’s made of stainless steel and can be cleaned with t the same cleaner you clean your refrigerator with. After we left we actually saw one on the road.
